The Summerschool is an ideal opportunity for students to sample university life in England, gain credits, improve their English, and find out whether they want to continue their studies at the University of Luton.The University will be organising two Summer School sessions in 2006, 10-28 July and 7-25 August.This course aims to provide the basics of creative writing with introductions to writing the short story, the novel, creative non-fiction and poetry. Sessions will comprise both teaching and workshop elements where students can have their work peer-reviewed, as well as receive advice from tutors.LecturersKeith Jebb is course leader in Creative Writing, and a widely published innovative poet.Lesley McKenna, a graduate of Creative Writing at the University of Luton, has taught here for two years, and is a published horror writer.English language requirementWe do not require an English language certificate for you to study on this course.However you must be confident in both your spoken and written English as all lectures will be taught in English and assessments will need to be completed in English.This course tops up your English and helps you to develop your study skills. The aim is to provide preparation for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, but the course combines well with (and supports) other courses we run in the summer. Before starting the EAP course, you must have an English language equivalent to IELT 5.5 or better.Please note, however, that a 3 week part-time course is not enough to raise your level from a low IELTS 5.5 all the way to 6.0. If you need to reach IELTS 6.0 before September, you should apply for our 8-week intensive International Foundation course, which begins on 3 July.English language requirementTo study on this course you must have an English qualification equivalent to IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 545 (paper-based) / 205 (computer-based) or Cambridge FCE B or higher.
