Based in modern, well equipped and purpose built premises in central London, Cavendish specialises in teaching professional and vocational courses from certificate to postgraduate diploma level.

In recognition of the international profile of its students, and the necessity for them to acquire competent language and communication skills, support English classes are offered to all full-time students free of charge. They are designed to develop and improve written and spoken English language skills as well as a more course specific vocabulary. Students may also use these classes to prepare for an IELTS examination.All courses are practically oriented but have a sound theoretical content, enabling students to either go directly into employment on completion of their studies or continue with higher level professional or university programmes. All courses lead to internationally recognised qualifications.

For those wishing to pursue a higher education at a British University, Cavendish has developed links with several leading institutions and will assist students with their applications.

Accessibility: Full-time courses run for three months to two years and commence in September, January and April. Most courses require students to have an upper intermediate level of English and a high school leaving certificate. However, this may vary from course to course so students should enquire with the admissions department.

English Language courses run all year round and may be joined at any time. Elementary to advanced levels are catered for.

Affordability: Cavendish College prides itself on the quality of its facilities and teaching, which is reflected in the price of its courses. Fees vary depending on duration and content.

Where is the College?

The College is located in a prestigious building in the very centre of London. The teaching accommodation has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the arts, business and related technology-based education. It is just 2 mins walk from Goodge Street Station on the Northen Line.

The Departments :

There are six departments : Business; Computing; Creative; English; Hospitality; University Access/Foundation programs.

Library facilities:

The College library houses some 3000 volumes, covering the recommended course texts and related subject areas. Professional journals are available and a number of quiet study places are provided. London is well served by public libraries which students may also use for reference purposes or for borrowing books.

Computing facilities:

The Computing facilities at Cavendish are extensive with over 100 workstations (using fast Pentium IV Dual Core technology with over 1GB RAM each), Apple Mac G5 and Imacs - dedicated for the use of the students. All students have easy access to resources such as high resolution scanners, laser and ink-jet printers (Colour and B&W), CD/DVD writers, video editing facilities.

The whole system is fully networked using fast 100Mbps Ethernet connecting to 8 dedicated Windows 2003 Servers. At Cavendish we pride ourselves on using and teaching the latest software from the likes of Macromedia, Microsoft, Autodesk and Adobe.

All students also have continuous access to the Internet for research purposes using a dedicated 2Mbps leased line.

Brief history of Cavendish College

Cavendish College, established in 1985 and accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further & Higher Education (BAC) offers high quality education and training, leading to internationally recognised qualifications.

It is now one of the leading educational centres in the private sector offering a broad range of quality full and part-time courses which are widely recognised in academia, commerce and industry. Based in central London, Cavendish specialises in teaching professional/vocational courses to diploma, advanced diploma and BTEC HND levels.

Courses

Specialist Pathways enable students to pursue one of the following Programmes:

- Business

- Information Technology

- Engineering

- Social Sciences (Including Law)

Students will also receive tuition in their specialist areas to ensure that their knowledge is at a level that will satisfy University admissions tutors. Courses also include preparation classes for the all-important IELTS English language exam, in which students must achieve a grade of 6 or more to enter a UK University.

Another important service provided for Cavendish students is advice from experienced staff about the choice of University. We believe that the correct choice is essential to maximise the students'' potential and best meet the students'' needs.

Cavendish has an excellent and well-established relationship with over 50 Universities in London and throughout the UK. We arrange trips to University departments for our students and ask University staff to visit us to help our students make the decision of which Universities to apply for. In addition, the students are guided through the entire process of completing their application form.

As well as direct contact with individual Unit teachers, students have open access to the Course Leader to discuss any academic or personal problems that they may encounter.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of the course and are expected to have been educated to a GCSE level or equivalent. For mature students (21 or older) the entry requirements may be modified. Students are also expected to have a level of English equivalent to the English Speaking Union level 4 (Intermediate).

AFTER THE PROGRAMME: Cavendish Foundation students will receive a transcript of their grades for all Units studied. The grading system of Pass, Merit and Distinction provides University Admissions Tutors with a clear picture of the student they will be receiving.

What will I study?

There are ‘core’ and ‘specialist’ modules in each of the programmes. The specialist modules relate to the specific programme. The other modules are general, ''CORE''subjects which are essential for University study in many areas. The ''CORE'' subjects are grouped into two fields: Study Skills and Analytical Methods.

CORE STUDY SKILLS:

This field consists of the basics required for degree-level study in any subject and includes:

English - This module has been developed to provide a sound knowledge of what is known as English for Academic Purposes (EAP). The skills-based components are designed to cover discussions, seminars, lectures, writing notes and essays, reading journals, texts etc. Care is also taken that aspects of socalled ''survival English'' are covered, dealing with interviews, form-filling and other facets of day-to-day life in a UK university.

Study Skills - This module is designed to familiarise students with the type, volume and level of work required of a student at a UK University. The use of library, internet and other sources is emphasized, along with referencing and avoiding plagiarism. The assessment, Research methods are dealt with, highlighting the differences between varying types (quantitative/qualitative etc.)

Computing - This module provides students with knowledge of Windows and other operating systems and basic applications packages used in commercial andacademic situations. Basic word processing, spreadsheet and database software are introduced and used. Students are encouraged to take a critical approach to the different operating systems and packages available.

Communication Skills - This module encourages students to use their language skills in project-based and problem-solving activities. Communications strengths and weaknesses are analysed and addressed with clear strategies. The kinds of meetings needed for project work and business are intensively studied and practiced.

CORE ANALYTICAL METHODS:

This includes the standard required knowledge of mathematical skills required for any technical subject.

Statistics - Students are introduced to the main statistical techniques used in

management, general business and technical subjects. The use of statistics and probability in decision-making and prediction is covered.

Mathematics - This module provides students with the necessary mathematical

skills for the quantitative methods modules of 1st year degree courses in business, computing and other technical subjects.

Quantitative Techniques - This module is a good introduction to the area of

operational research. Students are introduced to decision analysis, network analysis and forecasting techniques.
