Erasmus Mundus, MSc EF Scholarships

The Master of Science in European Forestry Erasmus Mundus (MSc EF) is provided by a consortium of seven well known European universities. The MSc EF is an international double-degree programme, which has been acknowledged by the European Commission as a top quality European MSc under the Erasmus Mundus programme.
The focus of the MSc EF is on the international dimensions of forest resource management and utilisation, supported by a sound understanding of ecological conditions and their dynamics in Europe. The international environment of the MSc EF invites you to study and to meet friends from all over the world. In addition to receiving a high quality education, you will enjoy the cultural and recreational opportunities of many European cities and nature.
Admission requirements
MSc European Forestry programme welcomes all highly-motivated candidates to apply. The minimum requirements to apply for the MSc EF programme are:
1) Bachelor's degree with excellent results in forest science or related field issued by an internationally recognised university.
2) English language proficiency, minimum TOEFL paper-based 550 / computer-based 213 / Internet-based 79, or IELTS 6.0.
Selection procedure
All the complete applications with requested enclosures that have arrived at the MSc EF secretariat in due time will first go through an eligibility check. Incomplete applications that are not completed in due time or applications that have not respected the submission deadline will automatically be considered ineligible.
The eligible applications will be evaluated according to six selection criteria:
- Background in forestry
- Academic excellence
- Motivation letter
- Work experience/professional qualifications
- International experience
- Recommendation letters
Each criterion is evaluated numerically and the ranking list is made according to the total score. Whenever two or more applicants have the same total score, the one who has higher score in academic excellence will be placed first. Due to aiming at gender balance, when two or more applicants have the same score, females are favoured over males. On behalf of the MSc EF Consortium, the University of Eastern Finland will inform all students on the results of the selection process by email.
Application procedure step-by-step
1. Gather all the belowmentioined requested enclosures A-G and scan them into ONE PDF file in the reguested order. Do not scan any additional documents!
2. Fill in the on-line application form and follow its instructions to print the application, attach the PDF file and submit the application electonically.
3. Sign the printed version of your application and send it along with the paper copies / originals of the requested enclosures to the address provided below. Be clear and concise and send only the requested documents! Additional documents shall neither be read nor considered as an asset to the applicant.
The required enclosures for your application are:
A. Officially attested true copy of your Bachelor's degree certificate.
B. Authorised translation of the degree certificate in English, unless the original is in English.
C. Official academic study transcript or officially attested true copy of it.
D. Authorised translation of the study transcript in English, unless the original is in English.
E. Curriculum vitae.
F. Copy of a passport (the page with information on personal details). If passport is not yet available, attach a copy of an identity card or other identity document with a photograph, which includes information on nationality and date of birth.
G. Proof of proficiency in English language.
You must proove your English language proficiency by passing a TOEFL or IELTS test. With regard to TOEFL test, ask your language test administrator to send the results of your test directly to the University of Eastern Finland. The TOEFL code for the university is 9779. Regarding IELTS test, a copy of the test score sheet is enough.
If you have studied your previous university degree (BSc) in English, you do not need to take a TOEFL or IELTS test. Instead, you must attach to your application a certificate from your university stating that the language of instruction during your BSc studies has been English.
Nationalities of USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland or the English part of Canada are considered native speakers. Native speakers do not need to proof the proficiency in English language.
H. Two letters of academic recommendations. Please use the REFERENCE FORM provided below. The letters of recommendation must be based on the standard reference letter format provided below. The referees must be academics (teachers/supervisors) from the university/universities where the applicant has studied. Recommendation letters must arrive at the University of Eastern Finland in sealed envelopes with contact information of the referee.
