The Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL, ), the institute of linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University, is hosting a VIDI research programme entitled “Going Dutch. The Construction of Dutch in Policy, Practice and Discourse, 1750-1850”, funded by the Dutch national research council NWO.The project will investigate the origins of linguistic nationalism, focusing on the opposition of standard and non-standard Dutch in public and academic discourse on linguistic diversity, on educational policies aimed at the spread of standard Dutch, and on the effects of educational policies on language use.
