Three PhD fellowships are available for highly motivated candidates at The Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The fellowships start 1st April 2011 or soonest possible thereafter. The application deadline is 28 February 2012.
Job description
The work within the 3 PhD fellowships will focus on:
1. Physiological and biochemical characterization of photosynthetic parameters in barley and maize plants suffering from micronutrient deficiency (PhD1)
2. Multi-plexed quantification of chloroplastic proteins using actinide elemental tagged antibodies in combination with laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (PhD2)
3. Coupling of physiological markers for micronutrient status with the genetic map of barley and maize through analysis of QTLs, candidate genes and association genetics (PhD3)
The 3 PhD fellowships constitute an integrated part of the DSF-funded project Improved agricultural sustainability using molecular strategies to optimise nutrient use efficiency in cereals (NUTRIEFFICIENT). The project is carried out jointly between research groups in Plant Nutrition, Molecular Plant Breeding and Photosynthesis at Department of Agriculture and Ecology and Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, KU-LIFE.
Other project partners include University of Southern Denmark (proteomics), Sejet Plant Breeding and China Agricultural University. The PhD fellows will work closely together with senior staff in the consortium, with each other and with and other PhD students within the area.
Your key tasks as a PhD fellow at LIFE are:
- Manage and carry through your research project
- Take PhD courses
- Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
- Participate in international congresses
- Stay at a research institution abroad for a few months
- Teach and disseminate your research
Terms of employment
The posts will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The posts are covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
The position as PhD fellow requires the applicant to be approved for admission to the PhD programme at LIFE when accepted for the post.
