PhD position (75%) at the Limnological Institute, University of Konstanz, Germany. The appointment is for 3 years and salary will be according to 75% of the German public service salary scale TV-L 13 (with reservation of approval).

Topic: The general objective of the PhD-study is a better understanding of spatial and temporal distribution patterns of plankton in lakes, in particular of the role of physical forcing, resource availability, and organismic interactions for the generation of distribution patterns in plankton. The PhD-research is focused on the distribution patterns of the buoyant cyanobacterium Planktothrix rubescens in Lake Ammer and compares the abundance of P. rubescens with the temporal and spatial variability of abiotic conditions and of phyto- and zooplankton.

The candidate is expected to organize, conduct, and administrate the planed field campaigns, analyze the field data, support the data interpretation using statistical analysis and numerical simulations with available 3D and 1D models, and publish the results. The PhD candidate will have access to state of the art instrumentation and will work within an interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Limnological Institute in Konstanz.
