The Doctoral School for Culture, Language and Philosophy, Department of Culture and Identity, Roskilde University, offers: 4 PhD partial-scholarship programs (tuition waivered, self-financed)

The PhD partial-scholarship program is a 3 year research training program with all working expenses covered (tuition fee, PhD supervision, office facilities, grants for relevant courses etc.) at one of the Doctoral School’s four programs: European Cultural Studies, Linguistic Studies, Intercultural Studies, Science Studies & Studies in Ethics and Legal Theory.

A PhD partial scholarship means that students are expected to cover all living expenses themselves. With a PhD partial scholarship you will be considered an ‘external’ PhD student (as opposed to a full PhD scholarship, where students are employed and paid by the university).

The four PhD partial-scholarship programs will be established during the fall of 2011.
The Doctoral School for Culture, Language and Philosophy constitutes the structural framework for research education at the Department of Culture and Identity (CUID). Anchored in the main disciplines of the Humanities – history, philosophy, literature and linguistics – the Doctoral School has a strong humanities profile, which generates interdisciplinary and groundbreaking research.

The Department of Culture and Identity comprises the subjects Danish, English, French, German, History, Philosophy and Theory of Science, as well as the interdisciplinary program Cultural Encounters. Moreover, the Department accommodates the undergraduate program Basic Studies in Humanities.

The Department’s research is organized into interdisciplinary research groups and PhD students are affiliated with one or more of these research groups. Within the research groups, PhD students have the opportunity to present their projects, participate in larger research projects and, in general, participate in the collegial life of the Department, including guest lectures, seminars, conferences etc.
