Communication security within smart grids is a vitally important issue as far as the safety and security of national energy infrastructure are concerned.
This project will investigate how the network and data security can be customised and applied for the development of smart grids in accommodating large-scale applications of renewable power generation, considering the factor of human behaviours. It proposes collaboration of experts from power system engineering, information security and science of human behaviours from the School of EngCS and Management.
Objectives:
Research in this project will include two aspects: (1) Systematic review and identification of security issues in smart grids, including effect of human factor. This will lead to the proposal and development of a mathematical model describing the information security of smart grids; (2) Measures to limit and even eliminate the risks of data and network security in smart grids, which will be proposed, developed and tested.
Academic Requirements:
A minimum of a 2.1 honours degree or equivalent in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or relevant degree is required.
Start Date: 1 October 2010
Duration: 3 years
