Doctoral Candidate in Educational Theory and Policy (M/F)

The successful candidate will be based in the Institute of Education and Society (History, Theory and Sociology of Education) within the LCMI Research Unit. The candidate will be required to conduct research leading to the completion of a doctoral thesis in the field of educational theory and policy. The candidate will contribute to a programme of work led by Prof Dr Gert Biesta. Within this programme, research is currently being undertaken on the following topics:
(1) the theory, philosophy and policy of teacher education;
(2) comparative research on traditions of theory and research in education;
(3) the role of research in the improvement of educational practice;
(4) the policy and practice of citizenship education, particular at a European level;
(5) developing educational theory: practical skills education; the limits of constructivism; the idea of metamorphosis in education.
Proposals that focus on the theory and philosophy of teacher education, and proposals that focus on the analysis and reconstruction of French educational theory and research in international comparison are particularly welcomed.
Your Role
- Completing a doctoral thesis in the field of Educational Theory and Policy;
- Presentations at national and international conferences;
- Preparation of single-authored and co-authored publications (journal articles; book chapters);
- Providing occasional assistance with the organisation of seminars, conferences, and other research-related events;
- Possibility of limited teaching in one of the Faculty's teaching programmes
