Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:
Doctoral candidate in political science with a focus on natural disaster crisis communication at The Department of Government, beginning September 1, 2011
Tasks: The position is part of the Swedish Research School on Natural Disaster Mitigation and the subproject has a specific focus on crisis communication in the management of natural disasters. The project has a focus on organizations’ ability to detect, prevent or mitigate the severity of natural disasters.
The objective is to probe the limits and possibilities of early warning and the inter-organizational coordination required for it. Comparative studies on the different types of natural events and their range of outcomes may enhance our understanding of the key factors which play a significant role and help identify best practices. A strengthening of society’s crisis preparedness also requires more research on public perceptions and reactions to natural disasters. People have different perceptions of threats and risks, which affect society’s preparedness, and therefore more research is required on the underlying driving forces.
Employment: The position is placed at the Department of Government, Uppsala University.
