A 4 year PhD position (SKO 1017) is available at the Natural History Museum (NHM), University of Oslo. The PhD fellowship will be part of the Spitsbergen Jurassic Research Group (SJRG).

Job Description
The subject of the PhD project is “Invertebrate palaeontology, stratigraphy and environments of the High Boreal (Arctic) Upper Jurassic”. Our group has had a significant research program in the uppermost Jurassic of Svalbard in recent years. We are extending these activities into the whole Upper Jurassic and with a broader regional perspective. The project will be based on invertebrate faunas collected from cores and outcrop, with a focus on bivalves, cephalopods and trace fossils. These data will be integrated with micropaleontological, geochemical and sedimentological information in order to address environment, climate, biogeography and stratigraphy of the Late Jurassic of the region, in particular the causes and effects of the widespread dark shale facies constituting important petroleum source rocks.
