ARENA Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo (UiO) invites applications to fill a vacancy for a PhD fellowship (SKO 1017) as part of the research project ‘Why not epistocracy? Political legitimacy and the fact of expertise’ (EPISTO). The appointment is for a duration of four years including 25 % duty work at the Centre.

The candidate will be admitted to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Oslo. The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The proposed starting date for the fellowship is 1 July 2012 onwards.

ARENA is a cross-disciplinary research centre under the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Oslo. It is a highly renowned centre for research on the transformation of Europe, in particular on the processes of political change.

The fellowship will be awarded within the framework of ARENA’s research profile, which consists of four research areas:
  • The administrative-regulative dimension of the political order,
  • The constitutional-democratic dimension of the political order,
  • The cognitive-cultural dimension of the political order and
  • The external dimension of the political order. The call opens for applications within all four areas. The research fellow will be fully integrated in ARENA’s research activities and its international network.
