A Doctoral research fellowship (post code 1017) in history is available at the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History, University of Oslo. The fellowship will be part of the research project “Graphicacy and Authority in Early Europe: Graphic Signs of Power and Faith in the Early Middle Ages (c. 300-c.1000)”. The project aims to contribute towards a better understanding of non-figural graphic representational signs in early medieval Europe by placing them in the contexts of related written discourse, concurrent political culture, and wider socio-cultural milieu.
Applicants are invited to submit doctoral proposals which fall within the project’s theme.

Upon acceptance, the selected candidate is obliged to participate in a researcher educational program at the Faculty of Humanities (cf. regulations and supplementary provisions for the faculty’s researcher education) and to engage in the designated research activities on a 100 percent basis. The aim of the designated research activities is to complete a doctoral dissertation to be defended at a public disputation for the PhD degree.
The position is available for a period of three years.
