A doctoral studentship is available at the Department of Energy, Environment and Construction Engineering. The department offers degree programmes in the areas of energy, environment and construction engineering and pursues research in environmental and energy systems with a focus on heat and mass transfer (especially drying technology), biofuel systems (pellets), environmentally friendly technology development and cleaning technologies. The department is strongly involved in the university’s research area of forest industry renewal and energy technology at the university.

We now invite applications for a doctoral studentship in the field of cleaning technology. Our main research interest is energy efficient cleaning of forest industry wastewater. The doctoral programme is linked to the department’s research on drying and cleaning processes and the overriding issues of sustainable development and resource-use efficiency.

The research area primarily includes biological cleaning with aerobic and anaerobic cleaning processes and utilizing waste material to produce biogas through the retting process. The current research project concerns analysis of oxygen consumption in aerobic cleaning of forest industry wastewater. There are facilities for lab-scale studies.

Duties

Duties normally include 80% research and 20% teaching and/or other departmental duties. The teaching duties may include undergraduate instruction in the department’s engineering degree programmes and consist of teaching, developing and administering courses. The work is done in conjunction with colleagues in the discipline, with teachers in other disciplines at the university and with other higher education institutions and industry. International cooperation, travel and temporary location at another laboratory might be required.
