Evidenced- Based Economics International Graduate Program 10 Doctoral Positions. Funded by the Elitenetzwerk Bayern, the International Graduate Program Evidenced - Based Economics offers 10 Doctoral Positions (TV-L E13/75% meaning ca. 1500 Euro net of taxes and social security dependent on personal circumstances) starting in October 2013.


WHO WE ARE: The faculty of the International Graduate Program Evidenced- Based Economics comprises members of the Economics Departments in Munich, Erlangen-Nuremberg, Regensburg, and Wurzburg.



The newly established graduate program provides excellent research facilities, a variety of specifically designed PhD courses, and a wide-ranging international research network. Our faculty has extensive experience in structured graduate education and a strong academic placement record. During the course phase of the program (the first two semesters) students will generally be based in Munich. Thereafter, students will be based at the principal advisor' s institution.

WHAT WE WANT TO DO: The research program of Evidence-Based Economics (EBE) aims to apply and further develop empirical methods in order to better understand the mechanisms that govern economic decision making and to properly evaluate the costs and benefits of policy interventions. Like evidence-based medicine, EBE is not content with mere speculation about the possible effects of an intervention, but -guided by sound theoretic modelling - seeks to generate clean evidence from randomized or natural experiments to identify the mechanisms that actually cause an effect. The need for the methodology of EBE arises in many areas, including public economics, labor economics, health economics, and development economics, but also within private firms and organizations where incentives provided by contractual and institutional arrangements are crucial determinants of success.
