Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:
Five PhD student positions in mathematics or mathematical statistics at the Department of Mathematics, commencing 1 July 2011, or according to a mutual agreement.
The department conducts research and provides education at graduate and undergraduate level in broad areas of mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematical statistics and mathematical logic. We also have an active research group in financial mathematics, and Uppsala's Centre for Interdisciplinary Mathematics is closely linked to the department. The number of employees is nearly 100, of which approximately 30 are doctoral students.
Duties: The duties of a PhD student are primarily directed at his/her own research education, which lasts 4 years. The job may also involve to a limited extent (maximum 20 %) other departmental duties, mainly related to teaching undergraduate courses - in which case the position may be extended to maximum 5 years. The salary level is set by the university regulations.
