We are searching for a candidate for a PhD position in Risk-informed decision making for flood management and water resource planning under climate change uncertainty within the project AdaptRisk, financed by the International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE) of TUM and by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
In AdaptRisk, we develop adaptive water management planning strategies, taking into account climate change uncertainty in extreme events and uncertainty in the future development of the catchment. The decision framework will be fully quantitative, based on rigorous mathematical modelling and decision analysis for identifying optimal risk mitigation strategies. While the project is a basic research project, it is expected that the insights gained in this project will directly influence the future planning of flood mitigation measures in practice. Close collaboration with practitioners (e.g. Bavarian Environment Agency) shall ensure this.
The work will be supervised by Prof. Daniel Straub and Dr. Olga Spackova. A close collaboration with Chair of Hydrology (Prof. Disse) and Chair for Mathematical Statistics (Prof. Klppelberg) is anticipated. The student is further assumed to spend 3 months at the Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University.
