The Precision and Microsystems Engineering (PME) Department conducts cutting-edge research and delivers scientific education in the field of precision mechanical engineering. It focuses on application in high-tech systems and microsystem technology by combining a multitude of physics principles.

Within the Precision and Microsystems Engineering Department of TU Delft, the Micro- and Nano-Engineering (MNE) section has a vacancy for a PhD student position in the FOM programme ‘Fundamental Aspects of Friction’.

Job description

In this programme, researchers from several institutes are working together on understanding friction and wear on the nanometer scale, and solving the tribological problems hampering micromachine devices (MEMS). The project for which we are now hiring consists of a theoretical and experimental study of real MEMS contacts (mono- and multiasperity) with several, mainly inorganic (but also graphene), sliding surface materials.
