The successful candidate shall continue the outstanding previous work in the area of code generation for safety-critical real-time systems. When designing software for embedded real-time systems, the Worst-Case Execution Time (WCET) of a program plays an important role.

Unfortunately, today’s compilers are unable to consider the impact of code optimizations on the resulting WCETs. The successful applicant’s research activities will concentrate on designing novel compiler optimizations in order to reduce WCETs. These optimizations will be realized in the context of the WCET-aware C Compiler (WCC) and will be scientifically examined using this compiler framework.

The WCC compiler is worldwide leading in the area of code generation and optimization for safety-critical real-time systems. Many of WCC’s WCET-oriented optimizations have been published in highly selective journals and conferences from the embedded systems domain. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to attain a PhD degree.

Teaching obligations of 4 hours per week belong to the successful applicant’s duties.
