We are looking for a motivated PhD student, experiences with Drosophila would be good but not urgently necessary.
In the project the PhD student is going to work on, we are focussing on the role of the tumour-suppressor LKB1 in the establishment and maintenance of cell polarity and proliferation control in Drosophila. Obtained results should also be tested later in a vertebrate system (mammalian cell culture and optionally Xenopus embryos).
In a previous work we have identified new interaction partners of the serine/threonine kinase LKB1. In a first step of the project, some of these possible interactions will be verified and their impact on cell polarity and proliferation control should be characterized.
As model system we are using Drosophila polarized tissues, namely ectodermal epithelial cells of the epidermis, the follicle cell epithelium and neural stem cells (Neuroblasts).
The position is available immediately. Candidates should have obtained their Master/Diplom in Biology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry. The salary is according to TV-L.
