The Institute of Theoretical Physics at the University of Cologne offers up to two positions for promising Junior Researchers in Mathematical Physics. The job openings are PhD Positions (75% EG 13 TV-L), and they are limited to three years.

The contracts should preferably begin in September or October 2012, but the precise starting date can be adjusted upon mutual agreement. The duties and responsibilities include contributions to the research and to the teaching at the Department.

The positions are associated with a Junior Research Group in Mathematical Physics which is funded by Prof. Zirnbauer's Leibniz Award and led by Dr. Thomas Quella. The PhD projects will contribute to the research agenda of the group which includes topological phases of condensed matter systems, critical phenomena as well as conformal field theory and aspects of string theory.

The group is participating in the activities of the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) “Symmetries and Universality in Mesoscopic Systems” and retains a close cooperation with the groups of Alexander Alldridge, Rochus Klesse and Martin Zirnbauer.
