The open position is in the area of Neuroethology of Motor Behaviour in Insects. IN particular, the associated research project will investigate the adaptive control of compensatory and corrective movements during walking, climbing and searching behaviour.

Methodologically, this will involve a combination of motion capture, electromyography and force measurements for multivariate analysis of whole-body kinematics, muscle activity and ground reaction forces. The project is third-party funded as part of the cross-disciplinary EU FP7 project EMICAB (Embodied Motion Intelligence for Cognitive, Autonomous Robots).

The goal of EMICAB is the abstraction of neuroethological and neurogenetic research results in the context of autonomous walking movements to generate artificial neural network models for intelligent behaviour. The integration of bio-inspired, intelligent control algorithms on an efficient, newly developed walking robot allows autonomous, goal-directed locomotion and complex, cognitive behaviour like e.g. object manipulation and motor planning.
