The Department of Photonics Engineering (DTU Fotonik) at the Technical University of Denmark is inviting applications from qualified candidates for a Ph.D. project of three years duration.

Project summary
In the proposed project a generic approach to IR detection, based on efficient nonlinear up-conversion to the NIR spectral range, setting new standards in terms of sensitivity, spectral resolution and speed. The detection system will allow for highly sensitive and fast detection of images in spectral regions where only few efficient detectors and no efficient imaging devices exists today.

The technology is based on nonlinear conversion of the optical field, either in a single point or in an image, to shorter wavelengths, corresponding to the optimum working range of existing detectors, spectrometers or cameras. While the technology is currently being investigated for the mid-IR (2 -5 m) spectral range within ongoing projects, this proposal is directed toward extending the spectral range covered by the technology further into the IR spectral region, further improving the spectral resolution of the image conversion system to the sub-nanometer range, allowing for spectral resolutions corresponding to the emission of single gas lines.
