We are now recruiting a graduate student in quality engineering to conduct research on how tools of statistical process control and statistical experimental design can be developed and adapted for continuous production processes.

Research in quality engineering spans a broad domain, including issues related to leadership and management of organizations, and cultural prerequisites for successful change management. The subject also includes the development of the tools and methods used to analyze and develop processes and products. Many of these methods and tools have a statistical base, among others control charts used in statistical process control, and design and analysis of experiments. The recruited graduate student will work with the development of statistical methods and tools.

Continuous processes are characterized by a variety of sensors and automated control. High-frequency sampling of data from a variety of variables means that the databases contain both autocorrelation and cross correlation. Few if any control charts are suitable for the auto and cross-correlation environment and this is particularly troublesome if autocorrelation and cross-correlation must be addressed simultaneously. The analysis of the experiments conducted in this environment must also consider the correlation problem, but also other complicating factors, such as the effect of feedback control loops have on the response.
