We are looking for a highly motivated candidate for a new DFG-funded 3 year PhD project on the responses of herbaceous savanna vegetation to the interaction of land use and climate in different habitats. In close cooperation with the Universities of Frankfurt a. M. and Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), we aim to improve the functional understanding of vegetation changes in savanna ecosystems of West Africa.
The PhD project will combine collecting vegetation and trait data in savanna ecosystems along a climatic gradient in Burkina Faso and subsequent statistical analyses. Work will start at the beginning of July 2012.
The position is located at the Institute of Botany at Regensburg University. Regensburg University is one of the leading research universities in Germany and particularly committed to promote young scientists in their academic career. It offers a well-structured PhD-program designed to train students in scientific methodology and thinking and to help them improve their soft skills (RIGeL Regensburg International Graduate School of Life Sciences). Regensburg is a beautiful city to live. The old town is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
