Globalization Research Programme at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, invites applications for one PhD position within the focus area of War, Conflict and Migration.
Globalization is one of NTNU’s six strategic research areas, which aims to build high level research capacity. Research within the Globalization Programme is centred on four focus areas: (1) Global Production and Communication, (2) War, Conflict and Migration, (3) Intercultural Dynamics and (4) Global Economic flows, Governance and Stability.
The focus area War, conflict and Migration actively seeks to build knowledge and new insights on forced migration, irregular migration, internal displacement and reconstruction after wars and natural disasters. Globalization is seen as a process of differentiation, in which individuals, groups or geographical areas may end up as excluded. Such marginalization may take place in the wake of globalization as profit-making circuits often are developed on the backs of the truly disadvantaged. Empirical studies on migration (forced and irregular), refugee studies, conflict/peace studies and studies of post-crisis reconstruction support the theory of differentiation and marginalization.
