The Department of Neurophysiology offers 2 PhD Positions in Electrophysiology and Data Analysis for PhD students in neurobiology or related subjects. Our research area is focused on neuronal network oscillations and excitation-inhibition-balance in the mammalian hippocampal formation.
One PhD student shall analyze network oscillations and synaptic transmission in hippocampal slice preparations from transgenic mice with alterations of APP/APLP-proteins. Applicants should be interested in electrophysiological recording techniques at the cellular and field potential level. All relevant techniques are established in the group and will be taught during ongoing work.
The second position will also be devoted to the analysis of network oscillations but will emphasize modern techniques of data analysis (sorting of signal wave forms by self-organizing maps, statistical methods of pattern recognition etc). The work will be divided between experimental techniques and (mainly) development and application of new computer algorisms.
The positions are available for immediate start and time-limited to three years.
