The Department of Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Environment) advertises a fully funded 3-year PhD position in environmental modeling, data assimilation and UAV-based remote sensing.

The project aims to develop methods to inform environmental models with laser ranging and multi-spectral imaging data from sensors carried by lightweight unmanned airborne vehicles. The project will be carried out as a collaborative effort between DTU Environment, DTU Space and Sky-Watch A/S. This PhD position will be partly funded by the SmartUAV project (Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation).

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will have a background in earth sciences/engineering, environmental modeling or remote sensing. The candidate will develop methods to combine environmental models and data from UAV-borne sensors for a range of applications including flood mapping, agriculture and water resources management. The candidate will contribute to the development of a new laser sensor for distance measurement.

The candidate will have a key role in the development of field-scale showcase applications for UAV-based environmental monitoring in Denmark and abroad. Willingness to travel and work in an international environment is essential. The candidate will work in a team consisting of scientists from DTU Environment, DTU Space and Sky-Watch A/S.
