The Department of Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Environment) advertises a fully funded 3-year PhD position in Hydrologic Modelling, Data Assimilation and Remote Sensing.

The project aims to develop methods to inform basin-scale hydrologic/ hydrodynamic models with radar altimetry data from the Cryosat and Sentinel-3 satellite missions. The project will be carried out as a collaborative effort between DTU Environment and DHI. This PhD position will be partly funded by the projects LOTUS (EU-FP7) and CRUCIAL (European Space Agency).

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will have a background in hydrologic modeling. Previous experience with data assimilation methods and/or remote sensing is an asset. The candidate will develop a basin-scale coupled hydrologic-hydrodynamic modeling approach and a data assimilation method suitable for ingestion of water level measurements from radar altimeters.

The candidate will work in a team consisting of scientists form DTU and DHI and partner institutions in the LOTUS and CRUCIAL projects. The method will be applied to a number of international case study river basins. Willingness to travel and work in an international environment is essential.
