The project will be carried out at the Department of Photonics, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The PhD-project is partly funded through the EU research project HARP.
The usage of mobile phones is growing rapidly thereby increasing the traffic in mobile networks. New radio technologies such as LTE-A are evolving, promising large bit rates, but in order to support the traffic growth the communication infrastructure interconnecting all the mobile base stations must be considered. Bottlenecks in this backhaul network can severely impact the applications running on the mobile devices.
On the other hand the backhaul network is costly to build and operate and therefore it should be designed to operate efficiently with the available resources to also keep energy consumption reasonable. This could also be impacted by the protocols controlling the traffic flow in the network.
