Applications are invited from enthusiastic and talented individuals for a PhD scholarship in radiochemistry at the Hevesy Laboratory at DTU Ris Campus.

The vacant position is part of the Nanoguide project, which is a large strategic effort funded by the Danish Strategic Research Council, involving multiple research groups at the Technical University of Denmark and Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet. The project is supported by two companies, GE Healthcare and Nanovi. The project aims to increase the quality of treatment for cancer patients that receive radiotherapy by developing new nanoparticle based imaging agents that can be used to enhance treatment precision, i.e. to increase radiation dose to tumor tissue and avoid irradiating healthy tissue.

The Hevesy Laboratory is a radiochemical and radiopharmaceutical facility at Center for Nuclear Technologies, DTU Ris Campus. The laboratory has a 16.5 MeV cyclotron equipped with a beam line for in-house production of isotopes, including 18F for PET scanning. The research laboratories and clean rooms feature state of the art equipment for radioactive and stable isotope chemistry.

At present, we are 25 people in a multidisciplinary team, working with both research and production. Among the research activities currently conducted are 18F-chemistry, tritium chemistry, Auger emitting nuclides for therapy, and radiolabeled nanoparticles for diagnostics and therapy.

Research
Drawing on recent research achievements in the group the successful candidate will develop and synthesize new nanoparticle systems labeled with radioisotopes suitable for medical SPECT- or PET-scanning. The resulting radiotracers will be evaluated as part of the Nanoguide project at Copenhagen University Hospital.
As the synthesis might be carried out at elevated radiation levels, the candidate will be working with automation and remote-controlled synthesis equipment.
