By taking advantage of the latest advances in stem cell science, human skin can now be transformed into functional neurons. This project will compare the electrophysiology & synaptic biology of neurons derived from patients to those of healthy individuals. The student will have supervisory input from a number of experts in their fields, & need to be able to thrive in a cross-disciplinary environment.
The successful applicant must enrol through the UNSW’s School of Psychiatry & will be based with the Regenerative Neuroscience Group. Essential Criteria: An honours degree in Science, Health Sciences or equivalent, or a degree in Medicine; demonstrated aptitude for research; excellent academic record. Scholarship details: equivalent to Australian Postgraduate Award, or $10,000 top-up is offered per annum to outstanding candidates with an existing APA.
