The eScience Center, University of Copenhagen, Denmark invites applications for a PhD scholarship within Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI). The project is a joint initiative of Synarc Imaging Technologies; the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen; and the newly established Center of Stochastic Geometry and Advanced Bioimaging (CSGB).
Diffusion Tensor Imaging has become a very important imaging technology in Brain Analysis and potentially holds valuable information like imaging biomarkers for various pathologies. It provides brain water diffusion information and potentially allows for estimation of the nerve fiber bundle tracks. However, due to inherent limitations, observed signals are noisy and at a coarse resolution. Denoising and fiber crossing resolutions are thus some of the fundamental challenges that have to be addressed. The candidate will be working on image restoration and super resolution using methods such as bilateral filtering of DTI images, PDE methods, especially Beltrami flows where a heat equation uses not only spatial differences but also differences in function values as metric and incorporates specific geometry from the tensor fields.
