We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student in Environmental Sciences with emphasis on Biogeochemistry. The aim of the PhD studies is to determine the methane and carbon dioxide fluxes from peatland and aquatic ecosystems. Other focuses are on the determination of the different energy balances for the ecosystems and the biogeochemical processes underlying the greenhouse gasses fluxes.
The PhD project will investigate the fluxes of the methane/carbon dioxide and elucidate the abiotic and biotic regulation of the biogeochemical processes responsible for the fluxes. The latter will be conducted using stable isotope techniques. The studies will be conducted at the Skogaryd Research Catchment and will be conducted in cooperation with Prof. Patrick Crill (Stockholm University) and Prof. Anders Lindroth (Lund University) within the project ”Landscape Greenhouse Gas Exchange - Integration of Terrestrial and Freshwater sources and sinks (LAGGE)” and the strategic research area ”Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate” (BECC).
One of the aims of the LAGGE project is “To develop methodologies to quantify GHG balances at the landscape scale in forested regions that include land-atmosphere, land-water, and water-atmosphere exchange of CO2, CH4 and N2O”. Techniques used within the PhD project will mainly be micrometeorological techniques (Eddy covariance) but also different chamber techniques and to some degree also include stable isotope techniques. A large part of the work will be on data analysis using mainly EddyPro program. The studies will be conducted mostly as field work at the Skogaryd Research Site.
