The Leibniz-Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB) invites applications from highly mo-tivated candidates to fill the position of a PhD Student in Plant Genetics, Biochemistry or Physiology.

The position is available immediately in the Cellular Signalling group (Prof. Dierk Scheel / Dr. Justin Lee) within the department of Stress & Developmental Biology and is part of a collaborative effort with Prof. Tina Romeis (Berlin, Germany) and Prof. Hillel Fromm (Tel Aviv, Israel).

Pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), such as the bacterial flg22 and elf18 peptides or fungal chitin fragments, elicit an increase in plant cellular calcium. This project will investigate the role of calcium regulated transcription factors in expression of plant immunity-related genes. The role of mitogen-activated protein ki-nases (MAPKs) and calcium-dependent protein kinases (CDPKs) or their interplay in this regulation will be tested.

The project will involve molecular biology, protein biochemistry (proteomics), cell biology, genetics, and plant-pathogenesis studies.
