People generate a massive amount of neural, physiological and physical signals in response to movies. These body signals are not random, instead their pattern is similar from person to person as well as across movie content.
In this PhD project we want to understand the multimodal manifestation of bodily responses to movies. We aim to disentangle neural, physiological and physical signatures of cognitive and emotional states based on BOLD-MRI, heart-rate and breath recordings of a large number of persons while watching short movies.
The research bridges state-of-the-art vision technology of the Intelligent Systems Lab Amsterdam (ISLA, Science Faculty), with the state-of-the-art in brain imaging offered by the Cognitive Neuroscience Group Amsterdam (CNGA, Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences). Both groups are part of the University of Amsterdam and enjoy a world-class reputation, ISLA for computer vision and search engine technology (discovering concepts in images and video) and CNG for the neural basis of visual perception.
