The Department of Statistics at Ume University is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and it conducts methodological research with applications in the social and medical sciences. The main research profile of the department is Analysis of large datasets: models and methods for analysis with administrative registries and longitudinal studies. Moreover, the researchers at the department are involved in multidisciplinary research programs including Ageing and Living Conditions, Analysis and modeling of Swedish students’ performance in TIMSS and PISA in an international perspective and Microdata research on childhood for lifelong health and welfare.
The Department of Statistics has openings for PhD student positions and successful candidates are expected to begin their employment as a PhD student in September 1, 2011. The research will be carried out within one of the active research areas of the department and will be decided upon when entering the program in collaboration with the appointed supervisor.
The PhD program in statistics is four years long. PhD students may be appointed on teaching and/or consulting duties up to 20 % of their time, thereby prolonging the duration of the program so that four years of graduate studies are guaranteed.
