A fully funded PhD position is available for suitably qualified applicants to join the BP funded Foreseer project at the University of Cambridge. The project forms a key part of BP's Energy Sustainability Challenge, and although it is based in the Department of Engineering, is supported by seven departments and is one of the most inter-disciplinary projects yet undertaken in Cambridge.
The project will specifically aim to apply the Foreseer tool to explore future Chinese resource requirements. This will involve the collation, assessment and processing of data on the use of energy, water and land in China, to allow exploration of future scenarios of coupled resource use and possible stresses. The project is likely to involve spending some time in China, and in addition to quantitative work, will involve the assessment of different future scenarios through exchanges with a broad range of interested stakeholders. This project is wholly funded by BP and suitably qualified applicants of any nationality may apply. Chinese language skills would be an advantage.
