Exeter's Department of Politics is pleased to invite applications for PhD studentship awards to begin October 2010. Three types of funding are being offered:

1. University of Central Asia-University of Exeter scholarships as part of UCA's Central Asia Faculty Development Programme (3 years funding)
2. ESRC Studentship (1+3/+3 funding)
3. Departmental Studentships and Bursaries (3 years funding)

Awards are open to all fields of politics represented within the department, including Central Asian Politics and International Relations.



There will be up to 20 full studentships for MPhil and PhD students across the humanities and social sciences. These prestigious awards are worth over L49,500 for home students and L70,000 for international students over three years. The awards cover: Direct payment of tuition fees (at either the standard UK/EU rate or International rate); Research council equivalent maintenance allowance for accommodation and living expenses (In 2008/09 this was L13,290 p.a).

There will be up to 15 bursaries for MPhil and PhD students across the humanities and social sciences. These awards are worth L21,000 over three years. Each student will receive a L7000/year grant towards the costs of a PhD for a maximum of three years. Fees are still payable at the Home/EU or International rate as appropriate.

Recipients of all internal awards are expected to contribute up to 80 hours per year to teaching, research/clerical support or as International Ambassador as part of their award.
