Post-doc position on sensor-based recognition of human activities for health-care

A leading institute in Italy and Europe for scientific productivity, the University of Milan is the largest university in the region, with approximately 65,000 students. EveryWare Lab is a research laboratory of the Computer Science department at the University of Milan. Our research activities are focused on data management for mobile and pervasive computing. More specifically, we are currently investigating issues at the intersection among the areas of mobile and pervasive computing, context representation and reasoning, and privacy.



Expressions of interest are being sought for a Post-doc position in the context of the SECURE (Intelligent System for Early Diagnosis and Follow-up at Home) project, starting on August 2012. SECURE is funded by a grant of Lombardy Region and Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, and includes industry partners, the EveryWare Lab, and one hospital research center. The overall goal of the project is to design, prototype and experimentally evaluate an innovative sensor-based system for remote monitoring of human activities and biological parameters of patients at home, in order to support early diagnosis and clinical decisions.

The specific role of the EveryWare Lab unit is the recognition of the domestic activities carried out by the patient, based on data acquired from body-worn, domotic, and environmental sensors. To this aim, a hybrid technique based on the combination of statistical and ontological reasoning will be investigated, implemented and experimented.
