The Bioinformatics Research Center (BiRC), Aarhus University, has an opening for a Bioinformatician/Statistician to work on an EU-funded project, NextGene, which is conducted in collaboration with partners at deCODE Genetics, Iceland.

Next-generation disease mapping calls for methods that can handle complete genetic information and relate it to complex biological information on the disease phenotypes. In NextGene, research will be done on new methods that can find more variants contributing to disease by explicitly modelling their interaction and combine the statistical signal contributed by several rare variants.

The specific projects for the candidate will be of his/hers own choice as long as they are within methods development in association mapping within the scope of the NextGene project. There will also be the opportunity to test new methods on large scale sequencing and genotyping efforts.

The candidate will join a group of researchers in Association mapping and Bioinformatics headed by Sren Besenbacher, Thomas Mailund and Mikkel Schierup, together with several post docs and PhD students within the field. The candidate will also be in close contact with researchers at deCODE associated with the project with the possibility for shorter or longer visits to deCODE.
