The post-holder will report to Dr Christian Lange and be based within the School of Divinity.
The post-holder will be expected to:
-prepare a scholarly monograph on the broad topic of Islamic eschatology in one of the following areas: material culture/art, theology/law, mysticism/philosophy, and Islamic modernity;
-publish research results in the form of several articles or book chapters;
-engage in knowledge transfer by presenting research results at scholarly meetings, both national and international;
-assist with the arrangements of various symposia and conferences as appropriate;
-manage the project's website;

A high degree of excellence in the field of Islamic/Middle Eastern Studies, Religious Studies, or a cognate discipline, demonstrated by a published monograph
- Knowledge of, and interest in, Islamic religious literature, particularly in the area of Islamic eschatology
- Knowledge of at least one Islamicate language, preferably Arabic, but not excluding others
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written) as well as the ability to work with secondary literature in several modern European languages
Desirable
- Experience of dealing with Islamic manuscripts
- Willingness to provide undergraduate and/or postgraduate seminars on the chosen research topic
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- PhD in a relevant subject
- Knowledge of relevant research approaches and models, analytical techniques and methods.
Desirable
- Experience designing, building and/or maintaining websites
Salary
The role is grade UE07 and attracts an annual salary in the range of L29,853 to L35,646 for 35 hours each week. Salary is paid monthly by direct transfer to your Bank or Building Society account, normally on the 28th of the month.
