The Department of Electrical Engineering invites applicants for a 2-year postdoctoral position at our Centre for Electric Technology. The position is established mainly in relation to the EU project EcoGrid, focused on demand response in real-time electricity markets, but also in connection with other national projects (e.g. EaseWind) focusing on new approaches to the participation of wind energy in electricity markets.

The position will focus on the ability of wind energy and demand response to provide ancillary services through market participation, in the context of the future substantial penetration of (stochastic) renewable energy sources in existing power systems. Additional methodological research on future market designs permitting to ascertain the provision of such services is foreseen.

The research will concentrate on using mathematical modelling and optimization for:
  • Evaluating various market concepts proposed in the frame of the EcoGrid project to enable demand-response based on price signals on the basis of the real-world demonstration carried out on the island of Bornholm (Denmark)
  • Proposing and analysing offering strategies for wind power producers, participating in day-ahead markets and providing reserves
  • Analysing the price-maker characteristics of wind energy in electricity markets, and accounting for such characteristics in the development of offering strategies
  • Assessing the potential local and global synergies between wind power generation and demand response.
