Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Molecular Entomology
The project deals with worldwide patterns of genetic differentiation in an invasive moth pest that has followed its fruit tree hosts around the globe.
To understand the processes by which this invasive species colonizes new regions the Postdoctoral Research Assistant will analyze samples (representing the global distribution of this insect species) at available polymorphic microsatellite loci, and evaluate structuring and differentiation of populations using state-of-the art techniques. Interpretation of data gained will also include historical records of infestation and routes of trade.
ETH Applied Entomology investigates insect-plant interactions, particularly as a basis for more sustainable pest and crop management, and projects range from molecular to ecosystem levels. Main languages spoken are English and German.
Education
PhD with good experience with molecular methods. Expertise in entomology and in state-of-the art population genetic analysis techniques is advantageous.
