Two Positions as Postdoctoral Research fellows (SKO 1352) / Researchers (SKO 1109) in systems neurosciene are available in the laboratory of Marianne Fyhn and Torkel Hafting at Department of Molecular Biosciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo, Norway.

We are searching for highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in neural processing and plasticity of cortical circuits. The planned research makes use of state of the art electrophysiological recordings and multiphoton imaging in vivo. The fellowships are for a period of three years, suggested starting date July 1st, 2011.

Job description/Project description:

The brain reveals a remarkable ability to adapt to changing conditions, and a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying neural processing and plasticity is of utmost importance to understand and promote healthy development, learning, and recovery from disease.

It remains unknown how synaptic rearrangements and change in synaptic efficacies are reflected in the activity of cortical networks and how such activity leads to behavioral or perceptual changes. In our laboratory we study neural processing and plasticity ofcortical circuits at multiple levels from the morphological changes of dendritic spines to functional changes of network activity in behaving animals.

The work is part of the project “Neural processing and plasticity of cortical circuits in behaving animals” funded by the Norwegian Research Council (FRIBIO).
