The German research Foundation DFG recently funded the project Finger Prints of the Gulf Stream Intensity in the Cenozoic, which is hosted at the Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F). BiK-F is an interdisciplinary institute with the mission to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change. It has been founded by the Senckenberg Research Institute, the Goethe-University in Frankfurt/Main and others partners.
The Centre is funded by the Federal State of Hesse through its Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). It provides a dynamic research environment that integrates a variety of disciplines from both natural and social sciences. The Project Area E “Data and Modelling Centre” invites applications for a Research fellow (Ref. #E 31)
The successful candidate is expected to perform sensitivity experiments with a general circulation model for Cenozoic time slices. The model experiments are designed to investigate the climate response to changes in the heat transport in the North Atlantic Ocean during the Cenozoic. In collaboration with palaeontologists, the model experiments are compared to different proxy data. Therein, a special focus is the comparison of climatic gradients in North America and Europe in the model experiments and in the fossil record.
Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E13, 50%).
