The Scholarship shall be known as the Roadbridge Research Postgraduate Scholarship, it is valued at €21,000 per annum and tenable for a maximum of three years. The scholarship will cover fees and maintenance grant to be paid to the student.
The Scholarship shall be awarded every three years to a full-time, existing or new University of Limerick student, pursuing a full-time research degree leading to a Doctorate, in the area of Medical Research. The successful applicant must be a full-time research postgraduate student, and either a Europe citizen or permanent resident of Ireland as defined by the regulations of the University Finance Office.The successful applicants may be either existing or new research students, but must be willing to take up the scholarship by the beginning of the first academic semester, 2010/11.
Application and Selection Procedures:
Interested students are invited to submit an application (maximum 5 A4 pages, font Size 12) comprising of the following:
a. Covering letter outlining the reasons, including financial need, for applying for the scholarship (maximum 1 A4 page).
b. Short curriculum vitae, including, University examination results/qualifications (maximum 1 A4 page).
c. Summary of the proposed postgraduate research project, including a description of the project and its significance, the proposed timeframe of the research and a select bibliography (max 2 A4 pages).
d. Letter of support (maximum 1 A4 page) from an existing or proposed primary supervisor of the research project.
A Scholarship’s Committee, chaired by the Dean, Graduate School and comprising the Assistant Deans for Research, will assess applications, under the following criteria:
Quality of the proposed research project
Primary degree results
The demonstrated need of the applicant
The Scholarship may not be held with any other bursary, scholarship or award subject to agreement between the University and the benefactor. With the consent of the Benefactor, the University may from time to time vary these regulations.
The selection committee may refrain from making a recommendation if they find no candidate of sufficient merit. The Scholarship may not be shared. All funded research students are expected to sign a standard postgraduate University contract specifying the rights and obligations of each of the respective parties (i.e. the University, supervisor and student).
