Blackfriars Hall is offering a new scholarship which is open to those studying at the graduate level in the social sciences commencing 2010-11: It comprises two awards of ten thousand pounds two years running, and a number of smaller awards. It would suit those interested in global governance, social policy, politics, refugee studies, development and more.
Named after Sir Arthur Halley Stewart the award is for those whose dissertation/ thesis will focus on a topic related to faith based studies eg religion and public policy, faith based umanitarianism, religion in IR, sociology of religion. Islamic Studies, Jewish Studies, and so on. It could also be awarded to those arriving in Oxford with innovative track records with faith communities, faith based NGOs or in the related policy realm.
In addition to the funds recipients will have a close link with supporting members of the House of Lords, will have access to placements with NGO and international institutions, and to leadership development opportunities. These will mostly take place during vacations although recipients will also be expected to take part in the activities of the Las Casas Institute at Blackfriars Hall (of which they'll be a member).
