Within the division of materials physics we are conducting research within the area of magnetism, hydrogen in materials and soft matter. We are currently seeking PhD candidates within the following areas:
Method development of magnetic depth profiling of functional magnetic materials

The PhD student’s main task will be to develop and use magnetic resonant reflectivity and also to combine this method with neutron reflectivity to probe the chemical and magnetic structure at a nanometre level. This work involves primarily development of analysis software (mostly in the Python programming language and the GenX framework) as well as data collection at national and international facilities with the subsequent analysis of the data. Since the position involves a significant amount of data analysis, excellent knowledge in programming is mandatory.
Magnetic nanostructures: Phase transitions and dynamic properties



The main task is the exploration of the influence of confinement on magnetic properties, such as ordering temperature, critical phenomena and dynamics. The investigations will be performed using magneto optical techniques as well as the utilisation of international scattering facilities such as synchrotron and neutron centre. Growth, patterning and characterisation of samples is also an important part of the work.
Hydrogen in metals

The mission is to understand the influence of composition and confinement on the hydrogen uptake in materials, utilising thin films and nanostructured materials. The growth and characterisation of the structures are an important part of the work and involves x-ray scattering, ion beam analysis, optical techniques as well as resistivity. God knowledge on solid state physics is required.
