At the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), you can challenge yourself byundertaking PhD studies in artificial intelligence. In this role, you willexplore some of the deepest problems of intelligence yet see your work makea real difference in practical systems.

The IBM-UTS Smarter Planet Project is offering three scholarships toAustralian or international candidates. The scholarship is paid as atax-exempt $24,653 annual stipend to help cover your living expenses for amaximum of 3.5 years. Tuition fees for successful Australian candidates willbe covered by the Research Training Scheme. International candidates may beeligible for an International Research Scholarship that covers tuition fees.



These scholarships will support PhD research projects that address realworld problems using software, intelligent robots, and connectedenvironmen ts. The objective of the IBM-UTS Smarter Planet Project is todevelop novel approaches to constructing intelligent systems that engageseamlessly with users and enable new forms of social interaction. Projectsmay involve artificial intelligence, formal logic, computational law,cognitive science, data analytics, social computing, robotics and theinternet of things.

A PhD is rewarding like no ordinary job. You will help create the future atthe same time as developing your research skills and preparing you for thenext phase of your career. You will work in the vibrant Innovation andEnterprise ResearchLaboratory (the "Magic Lab")with access tostate-of-the- art technologies, including Australia' s only PR2 robot. Theresearch environment is stimulating but relaxed and your colleagues will behighly motivated and skilled researchers. In addition, you will have theopportunity to work with senior research leaders in IBM.
